Design, engineering and fabrication for the world's largest kinetic sculpture
PUSH was tasked with developing not only the concept, but the complete mechanical and computer control system behind Linear Motion.
To meet the client's criteria for energy efficiency, we selected the pendulum as the central mechanical structure. The reasoning was based on Galileo's exploration with pendulum motion - for the historical science reference - and the pendulum's inherent mechanical efficiency to stay in motion once energy is induced. 18 pendulums are aligned on arced beam 84' long, cantilevered from the reinforced concrete of the existing IMAX dome. Each pendulum is perfectly balanced with a computer controlled counterweight. The entire system utilizes industrial-grade drives and Allen Bradley controls. The entire system even has its own UL certification to meet safety requirements.
